So how do I use the test kit to see if I have an invasive tree root problem
The kits comes with three 4 gallon and two 7 gallon Agroliners.
- Turn the Agroliners inside out, the Agroliner keeps the tree roots out.
- Some tree roots can travel along the surface of the soil. The solution to this was to keep a inch of the Agroliner above the
soil.
- Select a location far enough away from the base of the tree so no damage will be done to the structural roots or transport
roots. Idea location is in between major structural roots and transport roots. See "where roots are" page. Do not cut major roots
to install Agroliners. Pick another spot if major roots must be cut.
- Dig holes around your trees in pairs. Each pair of holes needs to be the same size. They should be placed the
same distance from the tree. All the soil needs to be saved in a wheelbarrow to which fertilizer and compost are added. Then the
soil in the wheelbarrow is mixed so it would all be the same.
- A bag is placed in the first hole. The bag in the first hole is filled with the mixed soil. Then second hole was filled
with the mixed soil.
- A large Hosta is selected and cut into two even divisions. One division is planted in the hole with the bag and the other
half is planted in the hole without a bag.
- The plants are watered down and receive no special treatment the rest of the summer.
- If you have an invasive tree root problem, at the end of the growing season, Hosta in the Agroliners will be normal size. While the Hosta planted without the Agroliner will be smaller in size. In some cases the Hosta in the Agroliner can have leafs eight times the size as the division grown without a Agroliner.
